Empathy
How are the non-GT students towards you?
Response: I really don't mind them, I'm fine with the older kids.Older kids are nice.
Tell me about an experience when you have been bullied.
Response: No, I actually haven't experienced with bullying.
What are the the biggest difficulties in sixth grade?
Response: I don't really have any difficulties right now, soo ya...
How do you get to school?
Response: I ride the bus to school.
What is your perception about the eigth graders on your bus.
Response: They are tall but, they are nice.
Have you experienced bullying.
Response: No, I haven't, but I have heard stories about bullying.
Do you have any locker problems?
Response: Yes, my friends and I took about 30 minutes just to open our lockers once in the raider camp. But, now that I am used to it I can open my locker faster.
Define
The problems we thought stuck out the most were...
5 minute hall change from class to class
The change of binders and supplies
Mobs of people "overwhelming" the 6th graders
Reflection: We chose this challenge because it was the one that was the biggest challenge the 6th grader faced. We chose the 5 minute hall change in the hallway because most of his challenges were realted to the 5 minute hall change in the hallway so we combined the challenge to create one big challenge. If this problem is solved it will have the largest impact on the students becasue one of the biggest reason kids are tardy is becasue they claim that they dont have enough time and they cant get to class on time. We dont want to extend the time of hall change but find a way so that the 5 minutes it enough time for the stuents to get to class. It will impact and hopefully decrease the amount of tardies and running there is in the hallways. It will also ease of the tension of getting to class on time, but at the same time provide a safe and secure enviorment.
Ideate
We had 22 ideas in total but the ones he thought were the best were:
A rollercoaster around school
A G- Shock watch which can transport you to classes
Hovershoes
Double hallway
Roller skate shoes
Our client like the idea of the double hallway and the Hover shoes the best and believed that they would help him the most efficently. So we decided to combine both the ideas. Our idea will solve the problem of not having enough time to get to class (the 5 minute hall chane). The hover shoes are designed to help the client move faster than normal walking speed and prevent the kids from running into each other. There is a electromagnetic forcefield that has been designed so that the students dont run into each other but can still move at an amazing speed. The double hallway allows the lockers and the main hallway to be seperated so that there is more space. Some students dont have enough space at their lockers and are late ebcause of that, so to reduce that we will put a seperate hallways for lockers o that there will be more space. If the students want to meet with each other they can go to the main hallway which connects the girl side of the lockers and the boy side of the lockers. Together, the double hallway will provide more space and you can move a lot faster from place to place.
Prototype
We had made the hovershoes and then Roma decided to make a diorama of the school to fix one of his other problems
What you see here is 3 hallways, two for lockers and one main hallway, and also there are doors, which allow you to move from hallway to hallway.
This is another view of the hallway system.
Here Ali S. and Roma are working to build the borders of the hallway system.
This image shows the hover shoes which we invented/created for our client Lukas.
Response
We explained both of our Prototypes and then asked Lukas about his opinion, on the Prototypes, and this is what we got back as an answer:
"So how do you think about these inventions?" asked Radhika
"Well...... I'm thinking......... The hover shoes, the hover shoes are nice. It's just good. and the hallway is okay." replied Lukas
"Do you think it would work out in school?" asked Roma
"It kinda would still be like we're all bumping into each other, since everybody would be trying out the shoes." replied Lukas.
"the shoes would repel other people's shoes, and the only way you would get bumped would be if you push your hands like this." said Radhika making a pushing motion.
Analysis andFeedback
Describe at least 5 insights, epiphanies, reframes (big or little) you had about project. Please include what led you to these i.e. what fun stuff you did to uncover them?
When our 6th grader chose the HoverShoes, we were dumbfounded on how to make it "hover". We're kind of glad he didn't chose Molecular Transporter Watch (MTW).
After we had finished the shoes, Roma decided to make a diorama of the school and help our 6th grader with a problem.
Ali S (who had come up with the idea of HoverShoes) had remembered one thing he had seen and decided to implement it into an idea
When we named our prototype, we had used the most generic description to be our name: HoverShoes and since a group of Indians and Pakis had made it: Desi Style. Hence: HoverShoes Desi Style
When we first were trying the shoes, WE FAILED MISERABLY. Then one of our group members made shoes out of duct tape. That saved us...
How did you work as a team?
Very well. We had heard everybody's idea and taken it into account
What was your best/worst team experience?
Best: When we were building the diorama and solutions
Worst: Making the Shoes hover...
When was your team process strong?
When we were building the diorama
What would you do differently next time?
Ask the marshmallow more questions and stories
Revise: Our client liked our final product and didnt have many things that he wanted us to change but he did ask that we put doors between the hallways instaed of having just an open pathway. So we added door to our final product. For the Hover shoes he like them overall and had no objections to them what so ever. He liked them the way they were and he didnt have anything that he wanted to change.
